The Right Way to Find your Right Talent

Is your corporation a talent magnet? How do you attract and retain talents in your company? Nearly 100 human resources professionals gathered at the HR Seminar: The Right Way to Find your Right Talent organized by JobsDB in July 2009 to share insights on recruitment techniques and talent management skills.

Move Beyond HR

Speaking at the seminar, Heidi Adick, Consultant and Director, Dew-Point International Ltd, said that HR should know the basics of recruitment. "You have to be clear about who you are looking for." She added that apart from experience and knowledge, you have to look for the personality and motivation of the job candidates, for example. Job ads are only one of the means to look for talents, and Adick advised HR professionals to move beyond HR to marketing. "You have to communicate to job seekers that your company is a good one to work for. So you need to be a marketer and use a new approach to get talents."

Word of Mouth Marketing

Hence talent management is very important. According to Adick, reputation of the company on the market is one of the factors job candidates consider in a job offer. If a company cares for its staff and staff are happy working at the company, they will deliver this message to outsiders. This is simply word of mouth marketing.

Talent Management

Adick commented that talent management is very important because corporations do not want to see talents hired gradually fall out. "Talent management should be in line with the business strategy of the corporation," she said. Job rotation, career developments, coaching and mentoring, and fair appraisal system are some good practices.

Last but not the least, she reminded corporations to provide opportunities for staff to grow personally, especially for fresh graduates, if you want them to be stable in the job. "Offer them good working conditions and do not treat them as cheap labour."
