The Labour Department advises employers in Hong Kong to adopt preventive measures against human swine influenza.
Employers are advised to maintain the workplace clean and hygienic, especially the floor, carpets, doors, windows and ventilation systems. In addition to disinfecting commonly-used equipment with diluted solution of household bleach, employers have to maintain good ventilation at the workplace and ensure toilet facilities are properly maintained.
The government suggests employers to provide face masks and other personal protective equipment to staff when necessary. They have to communicate health guidelines to employees, and let staff stay at home if they develop symptoms of respiratory tract infection or fever. It is also advised that corporations should develop contingency plans for keeping the workforce safe and secure as far as practicable.
