Many people looking for higher salaries and better promotion prospects have shifted their career to financial planning.
With the improved economy, the recruitment market in Hong Kong is available with lots of job opportunities. Job seekers who are not satisfied with their existing salaries turn to a career in financial planning which is able to offer higher salaries and better promotion prospects. In recent years, lots of people, especially those in banking and financial industries, have shifted their career to financial planning.
It is reported that there are currently only 6,000 people who are qualified financial planners in Hong Kong. But at least 20,000 financial planners are in demand. According to financial planning company AMTD, there are 1.4 million people in Hong Kong who have financial planning needs, with 60% looking for professional advice in financial management.
After passing related examinations, job seekers holding a university degree have to gain three years of related working experience in order to become a certified financial planner. The starting salary is around HK$20,000, and after three to four years, $40,000 is expected for a senior financial planner. Personal qualities required for financial planners are communication skills, outgoing personality and interpersonal network.
