The average income of graduates of the University of Hong Kong has increased by more than 10% in 2007 compared with the previous year.
According to the Careers and Placement Section of the University of Hong Kong, the average gross monthly income of graduates in 2007 was HK$17,112, an increase of 12.7% from the previous year.
A sharp increase in the percentage of graduates whose salary falls in the range of HK$20,000 to HK$24,999 is recorded, up from 4.6% in 2006 to 12.2% in 2007. Majority of the jobs within this salary range are government posts or government-pay-scale jobs in the education, healthcare and social service professional sectors.
In the private sector, more graduates are securing higher pay jobs, especially in the monthly salary range of HK$15,000 to $19,999. Most of the jobs come from banking, finance, engineering, architecture, insurance and business service.
Full employment rate at 99.8% of their graduates has been recorded for the second consecutive year. One-third of the graduates received the first job offer before their final exam in May 2007. For two consecutive years, more than 60% of the employed undergraduates received two or more job offers (64.3% in 2007 and 62.6% in 2006).
The University of Hong Kong conducted an interview to the entire 2,712 full-time 2007 undergraduates six months after their graduation. A total of 2,450 graduates replied, which was equivalent to a response rate of 90.3%.
