Graduates Set off to Mainland as Interns (28 Oct 2009)

About 200 graduates have been employed by mainland enterprises as interns under the Internship Programme for University Graduates launched by the Hong Kong government.

These 200 interns have or will set off to various mainland cities, including Beijing, Chengdu, Dongguan, Foshan, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Panyu, Shanghai and Shenzhen. Interns on the mainland are entitled to a living allowance of HK$3,000 per month and, depending on circumstances, an accommodation allowance of HK$1,500 per month from the Hong Kong government.

This programme provides 4,000 places for university graduates to work as interns and receive training for 6-12 months in local or mainland enterprises. A total of 1,000 of these places are in mainland.

For local interns, about 1,000 graduates have been employed by local enterprises. Their average monthly salary is HK$8,800. The highest offer is HK$22,000. The salaries of local interns are commensurate with the duties, responsibilities and training content of the posts. During the internship, employers are eligible to receive a training subsidy of HK$2,000 per intern per month from the government.
