Accounting Expert's Advice II

Q:I would like to develop a career as an auditor. How can I persuade the employer to offer me a job if I do not have much working experience after graduation?

A:Character is the ¡§soft skill¡¨ that current employers are concerned about. Character includes attitudes, willingness to learn, and the like. Communication skills is also a key factor for the candidate. Also remember to be well-prepared for the interview. If you do not have experience in this field, discuss any coursework that is relevant to the job position. Also share your achievement in your extra-curricular activities.

Q:I have got the LCCI Third Level, but no working experience related to accounting. I am already 31 years old. Should I look for a position as junior accounts clerk?

A:For job seekers lacking accounting experience, starting at junior level is the most significant way to build up experiences. However, you might also consider temporary or contract positions. The reason is that the requirement in those positions is not as high as that in permanent ones and also because of the urgency of positions, employers are willing to hire candidates as soon as possible. In your situation, contract positions can provide you with valuable experience. In many cases, contract positions would eventually turn into permanent jobs, if the candidates performed to a satisfactory level.
