Hunting Down & Securing Your Dream Job
Career Tips by Richard Ng
Research about the Potential Employer's Background
You will need a brief idea about the business your company is involved in, their products or services and their working cultures to see if they suit you. But most importantly, it's to see if your prospective company even exists!
Meet the Job Requirements
Be realistic. You need to have a match or at least a close match between the job requirements and your own qualifications while looking for the job you're truly interested in. If you're not even close, get additional certificates or attend short courses to increase your chances.
Understand the Job Functions and Responsibilities
Don't jump straight at the offer without understanding the duties entirely, because if you cannot perform during work, you're in for a hot soup.
Research about Working Environment and Workplace Location
It would be less than ideal to be working in an area whereby there is hardly any amenity around or that your company is situated in an area with a high crime rate.
Look into the Job Benefits and Salary
Ask for details of the salary and its job benefits related to the job because these are necessary information that you need to consider whether or not the job opportunity is worth grabbing.
Understand One's Own Personality and Capability
Not everyone is right for the same jobs. So it's really necessary that you understand your strong points and weaknesses in determining what type of jobs would suit you most.
Broaden Your Job Searches
Don't just focus on one main source. You should vary your sources, i.e. through online recruitment, newspaper ads, consulting firms and networking.
Be Persistent and Make Consistent Efforts Whilst Job Hunting
If you really want to get your dream job, you will need all the endurance and perseverance you have in you. Getting a job that you like is not going to be easy. Therefore, you need to be consistently pursuing it in the right direction. No giving up.
