Master of Arts in Education

Major concentrations:

  • Early Childhood Education
  • Basic Education Teaching
  • Lay Leadership Development

Objective:  to enhance the professional skills of educators designed to improve the quality of teaching and research in the basic education departments (pre-elementary, elementary and secondary) by increasing the educational competence of teachers in order to satisfy the needs of the community they will serve.

For each major concentration, the student is expected to take:

  • Basic Course 12 units
  • Major Fields of Concentration 18 units
  • Electives 6 units
  • Comprehensive Exam Thesis and Oral Defense 6 units

TOTAL: 42 units

Required qualifications for an applicant:

  • Bachelor’s degree from college of good standing
  • A minimum of 18 units in the discipline in which the applicant intends to do graduate work
  • A general average of 85 percent, B, 2.0 or above
  • Average rating in the admission tests battery
  • English proficiency for foreign students
  • Satisfactory interview with the Department Chairperson

If the applicant does not hold a Bachelor’s degree on the program he is applying for, acceptance to the program is on a probationary status until all the required 18 undergraduate units have been taken and passed.  He may not take any of the basic and major courses offered in the graduate program until all the pre-requisites have been taken. 

A maximum of 3 semesters is given to complete these undergraduate courses:

  • Foundations of Education
  • Principles of Teaching
  • Teaching Strategies
  • Values Education
  • Test and Measurement
  • Guidance and Counseling
